Pope Francis has finally landed in Kenya and this is a big deal since the last time we were visited by a Pope was in 1995 by the late John Paul II in his third visit to the country. There has been a huge buzz  about this 3 day visit and fortunately there are several ways in which you can be able to follow the events that are lined up:

1. Twitter and Facebook

Twitter is excellent when it comes to covering events as they happen and that is why you can be able to follow the Papal visit by following the hashtag #PopeInKenya

Various government Twitter accounts are also tweeting the events , notably @NEXUSKE which is the “Government’s Newsroom,” @StateHouseKenya and @PSCU_Digital. Twitter Moments is also another way to get curated information about a certain topic and you can be able to follow the Pope’s visit to Kenya here. Just like the dedicated Twitter account @PopeVisitKE, there is a Facebook page too, aptly named Pope Visits Kenya.

2. Via an appPope Visit KE

There is an app, conveniently named Pope Visit Ke that is geared to be a portal to get information about the papal visit to Kenya. It has several features:

  • Register: This will allow you to register for the mass the pope will preside over and for the youth for a meeting at Kasarani.
  • Donate: The donate tab has details for an MPESA paybill number if you want to donate to the financing of the pope’s visit
  • Program: This contains the Pope’s itinerary and program for the 3 days.
  • Media Feed: This pulls information from the official Pope In Kenya social media accounts (Twitter and Facebook respectively)
  • Videos: This tab has a list of videos about the Pope
  • Prayers: As the name suggests, it has a list of prayers cited by  Catholic faithfuls
  • Biography of the Pope: This will give you a lengthy biography of Pope Francis
  • Support the Pope: A form for supporting the Pope with your Rosary

3. Dedicated website

There is a dedicated website for following all the events around the Pope’s visit. It is very well designed and is the to-go place if you want to be kept abreast with the Papal visit. The functionality of the website is similar to the dedicated app where you are able to get a general view of the Pope’s visit and the entire 3 day programme which includes several visits, meetings and the anticipated public mass.

4. Livestreams

You should be on the lookout on several livestreams that will be shot along the Pope’s schedule and there are two platforms that come to mind: Periscope and YouTube. Some of the people who will attend the public mass tomorrow or the meeting between the youth and the Pope will create livestreams so discover and check them out on Periscope’s Global Map. The Vatican has a YouTube account with scheduled livestreams for several events on the programme so set those reminders if you don’t want to be left out.
